7-Step Powerful Technique to Prepare Action Plan

Step 1

List your goal. Now analyse your goal and be clear about it. Imagine the goal and further think about the steps to realise this goal . Think what you have to do to realise it. Further, divide your goals into intermediate goals.

I am illustrating an example of planning. Suppose your goal is to become an IAS. As a first step, you analyse your goal. You have to clear pre IAS exam first. For that you have to choose your subjects.

Step 2

Think about the intermediate goals. List all necessary actions to realise them.

In the second stage, you have to get the study material and you have to prepare an action plan of study according to it.

Step 3

You should understand your current situation and your position. Where you are and what the sources are available to you. Know your problems and try their possible solutions.

In the third stage, you have to examine your level of understanding. What level is needed for IAS? After keeping in mind your intelligence, you have to prepare a plan of study according to it.

Step 4

Think of time available to you. Prepare time budget. According to situation, set your priorities. Decide the sequence of activities.

In the fourth stage, you have to become time conscious. You prepare your time budget. It is given in the previous chapter. You will consider the time factor. You may switch over to your time table.

Step 5

Be aware of intuitions. Write them down whenever you get them. Sometime, creative solutions may come up. Your past experience guides you through intuition. Such help is of cosmic order. You should not undermine the power of intuition in helping you to get success.

You will envisage your problems and understand your level of confidence and knowledge. All these will enable you to know your positions.

Step 6

Evaluate whether your planning is feasible or not. Does it need any change or improvement ?

At this stage, you will examine yourself. How should you improve? You should take coaching ? What type of coaching is useful? Whether your budget permits or not. You have to sort out all these problems.

Step 7

Put this planning into action and get nearer to your desired goal.

After considering all the facts, you have no choice, but to act according to plan. Those who act have more chances to get success.

Mere planning does not crystalise the burning desire into reality. For that, you have to stick to it and put it into action. It is the action which brings you success.

Most people spend more time in planning a party or vacation than planning their lives

EMERGING NEWNESS IN 2009

The festive season of December and end of the year brings on feelings of introspection, self-auditing, recollection of experiences, visit to a place of worship to pray for peace etc. Everyone wishes to start the New Year with hope, love and peace. Millions of people are working selflessly towards the goal of a peaceful world and it definitely requires united co-operation, but before I change the world, let me begin with the self. Misfortunes in the world have long been attributed to external sources (God's will, fate, religious fanatics etc.). Even if this may be true, let me choose to look at what I am doing to counteract the negativity.

Reviving the human spirit is a noble task and effective when each person re-ignites his or her own hidden energy. The human soul has the capacity to reach heights of perfection in moral values and inner powers; layers of self doubt, sorrow or weak characteristics cannot hide the true self for long. Association with the body has led to adoption of vices but transformation beings when my consciousness returns to the original, eternal state of being an infinitesimal point of divine energy i.e. the soul, spirit, 'atman'. In this state of 'soul consciousness', I channel my thoughts and intellect towards remembering and communicating with God, the Ocean of Love, Wisdom, Peace & Purity. I fill myself with spiritual energy that helps transform the self for the better. I, then can share this loving, divine energy with others so that they too experience peace, joy and success in their lives.

Here is wishing all our esteemed readers a fulfilling holiday season and promising New Year!!!

Connect with your true self

Nobody realizes that some people expend tremendous energy merely to be normal.
- Albert Camus

Is there any relation between the number of those tearjerkers you watch on TV and your mental state? A recent study has found that unhappy people watch much more television than happy people. Those who are unhappy watch up to 30% more television than happy people, John Robinson and Steven Martin of the University of Maryland discovered. The American researchers formed their conclusions after analyzing the social habits of 30,000 people between 1975 and 2006.

Another study says that emotionally needy individuals are at greater risk of recurring depression. Myriam Mongrain, who is associate professor of psychology in York University, Canada; studied graduate students with a history of depression, rating their levels of emotional dependence. She again interviewed the participants 20 months later to check recurrence of a major depression. Her findings in the study "Healthy and unhealthy dependence: Implications for major depression’’ show that emotionally needy individuals have much greater risk of relapse.

Suffering panic attacks every time in a chaotic situation or having an obsession to do something repeatedly, like pulling out strands of hair while concentrating on work are again mild forms of mental illness - which is set to become the number one health risk in India by 2010, according to a recent report on mental health by National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). According to the report, morbidity on account of mental illness is all set to take over from cardiovascular diseases as the number one health risk in India in the next two years. The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) further says that over 20 million Indians suffer from serious mental ailments and 50 million more from milder forms.

Thus, a shocking 70 million people suffer from mental ailments with growing number of studies highlighting that mental illness may become the biggest health risk by 2010. The striking element in all the three research studies is it shows how vulnerable human mind has become in dealing with various forms of emotional ailments. This clearly identifies the lack of our ability to deal with depressive and demoralizing tendencies caused by the environment we live in.

We fancy racing through our lives without pausing to consider who we really are or what we want to be, satisfy ourselves with breadth rather than depth and choose quick reactions over considered reflection. We use words like obsessed, crazed and overwhelmed not to describe insanity, to characterize our everyday lives. Feeling starved for time forever, we assume that we have no choice but to cram as much as possible into every day. But managing time efficiently is no guarantee that we always bring sufficient energy to whatever we are doing. Keeping ourselves energized for the long work schedules we maintain requires more than just time management. We need to guard ourselves from frequent and precipitous energy level drops and the struggle to stay focused. Our tendency to constantly race against time and the limited human energy which we expend, more than we can; leads to great stress and ultimately causes distress. It is indeed effective management of our internal energies to wade through our ever squeezing schedules, which is the need of hour.

So how do we ensure that we bring our complete energy to every task done throughout the day? Wouldn't it be wonderful if we can maintain stillness even in chaotic situation and think about how to get out of the chaos rather than bother about the How’s and why’s that led to situation? How valuable would it be to bring more positive energy and passion to the workplace and impact those we lead with that positive energy? Would it affect our workplace relationships with one another, and the quality of work we all do? There is a good chance that the answer is a Big YES! But is there a silver bullet for this? Not obvious.

The first step is to realize who are we to know what bothers us. Once we know our true form; we realize that we possess certain innate qualities within ourselves. We also realize that some of the qualities which are currently possessed by us are not ours by nature but have acquired them over a period of time. It is because of these acquired qualities we turn to external solutions to resolve the problems whose root cause is within us. Then we also need to realize the importance of our original qualities within us and try to develop them through certain fundamental changes. In addition to developing these changes we also need to understand how to sustain and integrate them in our lifestyle. This process is often called self transformation. The process of self transformation is effective only when necessary changes are brought in lifestyle through a natural change management process. This also needs a paradigm shift in our thinking and our attitude.

The shift is needed to understand how to achieve this seemingly herculean task and through a methodology so simple that it can be easily integrated into our lifestyle. My experience with is Raja yoga meditation it helps us achieve this with its unique three step framework of Self Realization, Self Transformation and Self Actualization. With Self realization we first understand what we are and more importantly what we are not. We also become aware of the root causes and effects of physical, mental and emotional disorders and how to effectively tackle them by developing few self management skills.

Just to recall a story about a man who was selling balloons at a fair in a tribal village. He had balloons of different colors. To attract the attention of people, he would release a gas filled balloon into the air. When children saw the balloon go up, they would jump with joy and rushed to buy one. The Balloon man was busy in attracting his little customers, when he felt someone pulling his shirt. He turned around and saw a boy asking him, "If you release a black balloon, would that also fly high?"

For a moment the balloon man was taken aback – why is this little boy asking such a question? His eyes fell on the dark skin of the body, and in a flicker of moment, the balloon man realized the matter!

With lot of affection, he moved his hand on the head of the little boy and replied gently, "Son, it is not the color of the balloon; it is what’s inside it that makes it go up!"

In the same way through self transformation when we fill ourselves with enlightenment of self realization we begin to experience that we are more valuable and capable than what we usually think of ourselves. We also rid ourselves with various shades of negativity which we unknowingly fill ourselves with. In due course of this process we become emotionally mature and strong that we are able cope with external stressors and manage the ecosystem around us, effectively eliminating the need to fall back on some temporary recourse.

To ensure that change management sustains for a long time the self actualization step in Raja Yoga helps to keep us motivated and keen on few specific and long term goals. The change transforms four energy centers of a human being namely spiritual, mental, emotional and physical

There are number of studies to quote the benefits of meditation or related techniques. My own experience of over a decade being part of this process and seeing others going through this determined and willing process of self transformation; I have come across people who have successfully handled Repressed Memories, depression, panic attacks and went ahead enjoying their lives. Another interesting observation I have made is people have more self confidence and optimism when dealing with crisis situation which by itself is a huge gift to any individual undergoing challenging times.

To relate the importance of positive attitude and the need to shed negative attitudes, let’s take the general tendency of a human being to complain. Right now the world economic problems have created a license for everyone to complain. The UK is grappling with the highest unemployment for 11 years and in the United States, for 14 years. People around the world are losing their homes, their jobs and their medical insurance. It is very bleak but does complaining or venting make you feel better? Statistics show that it does not. According to the Gallup Organization complaining costs the US economy between $250 to $300 Billion every year. In fact in US 90% of doctor visits are stress related and the #1 cause of office stress is coworkers and their complaining (Centers for Disease Control and Truejobs.com). Complaining is associated with: decreased life span, increased risk for heart attacks and stroke, fewer friends, less energy and less success. This shows our initial observation that most of us are ill equipped to face and manage our emotions; especially in crisis situations, which if mismanaged can turn into disaster.

Thus it is evident, even organizations would significantly benefit from people with better self management skills and a positive outlook towards life which stems from better self understanding. Much of the lifestyle related health risks can also be avoided by having the accurate knowledge of self and our role in this world. This whole world would be a lot better place to live with all the self aware enlightened people in it.

It is a common practice to make resolutions and To-Do lists for the New Year. Let’s do something different in 2009; by creating a Not-To-Do list. The first thing we will not do is, to engage our energy and emotions into negative and waste. This one practice will save us enormous energy to lead our lives with great effectiveness and enthusiasm. May the New Year bring Peace Love and Happiness to All!

The 20 dollars's bill

U might have seen this already .. but its worth another read .. :)

A well known speaker started off his seminar by holding up
a $20 bill. In the room of 200, he asked:

"Who would like this $20 bill?"

Hands started going up. He said:

"I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first,
let me do this."

He proceeded to crumple the dollar bill up.

He then asked:

"Who still wants it?"

Still the hands were up in the air.

"Well," he replied, "what if I do this?"

And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into
the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty.

"Now who still wants it?" Still the hands went into the air.

"My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson.
No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because
it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20.

Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground
into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that
come our way. We feel as though we are worthless.

But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you
will never lose your value. To those who love you, you are
priceless.

The worth of our lives come not in what we do or who we know
but by who we are!

Keep wearing virtues as your ornaments. Keep loving others. Keep giving regard. You have to go beyond the stars. Keep thoughts higher than the sky, and an abundance of patience like the earth. Keep spiritual love in your eyes.

Be Awe - full

Look out on life with amazement, not shock. The variety, the diversity, the manner of every person, the beauty amidst the drudgery, the contrasts, the opportunities, the heroism in the lives of ordinary people, your gifts, your talents, your friends - even just one friend - is all awesome. Live in awe, and entertain wonder, and you will be knocking on the door of true love. Don't kill it with cynicism or criticism, don't sabotage your life with moaning and complaining. Open the eyes in your head and the eye in your intellect and choose to see the stunning, awesome, diverse beauty of life happening around you right now. Meet it with your heart and you will enrich and be enriched in one single moment.

Managing Thoughts

Have you ever thought about the fact that there is never a moment when you are not thinking and that whatever you are not thinking and that whatever happens in this world begins with a thought? Here are some simple steps to help you manage your thoughts and achieve success and happiness in life.

1. BE AWARE OF YOUR THOUGHTS:
Start watching your thoughts, without identifying them. At the outset thoughts are like the waves of the ocean, which do not stop even for a moment like the watch ticking, it's way. Do not be discouraged by the fact that you are becoming a part of your thoughts. Just watch your thoughts as an observer. You may even get carried away by your thoughts. Never mind. What you need to do whenever you detect this, is to take yourself out of your thoughts immediately and get back as a detached observer. Just watch after some time you will be able to know your negative thoughts. Now concentrate on all the positive thoughts that you can replace these thoughts in order to switch over to a more positive attitude towards them. Unnecessary thoughts should be cut to improve the quality of necessary ones.

2. IDENTIFY YOUR NEGATIVE THOUGHTS:
Keep a log book of your thoughts. Write down the happenings of the day. The log book should record both verbal and mental response. Were your thoughts positive, appropriate and adequate or were they confused, superfluous and negative? Sometimes we ask others or simply to ourselves, or think about something just like that. Ask yourself what provoked you to make the initiative to start a conversation? Was it essential? What was the purpose? Did it serve the purpose? If no, then why not? Were the words used in thinking appealing to the other person, appropriate, adequate and positive? Did you feel happy or satisfied after the interaction with the other person or with your inner self? Can you find ways of improving your performance as a thinker or a speaker? Keep in mind that log books are meant to get you started and make you aware of your negative thoughts. It is very important to be aware of these thoughts when they are just taking birth, rather than leave them for later analysis.

3. REPLACE WITH POSITIVE THOUGHTS:
This is an important and vital step, for, it is here that the actual switch-over to the desired state takes place. The removal of your negative thoughts should be followed by the replacement of positive ones. Our success and happiness depends on identifying our goals precisely and chasing them effectively - both of which, in turn, depend on how well we manage our thoughts. The quality of our thoughts decide the quality of the outcomes we land up with. Thoughts have the power to materialise themselves because they are instrumental in channeling energy towards the physical or mental condition they are about. External situations and the remarks of others can harm us through our thoughts - but only to the extent our thoughts allow them to. So think positive.

Some Tips:
Talk positive quotable quotes of great people. Surround yourself with posters and cards bearing positive messages. Keep them on your table. Hang them on the walls. Paste them near the bathroom mirror and on the doors. Stick them on your watch strap. Keep them on the refrigerator. Have them on the dash board of the car. Slip them under the glass on the table in front of you. Slide them in the inner side of the briefcase you carry. Find other suitable places where you are bound to look at them every day. Remember that these messages will stale with prolonged use. So keep changing their position and contents. Do not let the momentum of these thoughts get weaker. Use them appropriately in response to specific negative thoughts. The replacing thought must be positive in every sense. Apart from being inspiring and assuring, it should also be suggestive. For example, if you confront a negative thought, "I can never succeed", it will not suffice if you replace it with "Attack! I can succeed". This kind of replacement may not be effective, for it sounds like wishful thinking and lacks assurance, depth and penetration. It is better to
break your replacing thought down into more definite and specific steps or instructions.

The replacing thought in this case may be "I can succeed. By earlier failures I have become rich in experience and have come to know specific areas that require special attention. I will jot them down and systematically think of the ways in which I can improve. I shall plan and then stick to it. There is absolutely no reason why I should not succeed. I will assess, plan, execute, monitor, modify and carry on with the plan, and finally succeed.

Infact, that success has already been achieved and only time separates my thoughts of success and its transformation into reality. I am committing myself to all that is required to achieve success. I am a river that knows no obstacles. I shall find my way any how - and if there is none I shall make one". Thoughts like these can be further reinforced with emotions and images.

All this may take longer than one single replacing thought, but these are far more effective since they allow you to divide the desired target into workable units

FORGET WHAT YOU HAVE LOST SO THAT YOU CAN ACHIEVE WHAT STILL REMAINS

Am I Happy?

If there is any sadness I make a strong effort to be free of it quickly, otherwise it grows like a vine in the rainy season: by midday I will be confused; by evening a whole jungle of weak, wasteful and negative attitudes will have taken deep roots in my mind. The result equals chaos. Sometimes I reach a stage where the attitude is: "So what if I feel the blues today? It is my life; no one else will be affected". Firstly, the more I allow myself to experience sorrow, the less time I have available to be happy and contented. It sounds ridiculously obvious, but am I aware of the value of happiness? It is an extremely rare commodity, and the cost goes sky high. Secondly, is it my life? Yes, I am living it, but am I not a member of a family or a co-worker with others, and am I not part of society? If so, then every movement affects and is affected by those around me.

The Spiritual Aspect Of Healthcare

Silence, happiness, love and blessings are important aspects. Happiness leads to good health. It is only you who can give this medicine to yourself. Some bring illness to themselves through anger, greed, unfullfilled desires, expectations, suppression of feelings and relationships not based on true love. Look in your heart, you will know where your illness comes from. There are three ingredients for a long and healthy life: live with attention but without worry; use time in a worthwhile way; keep your thoughts pure, positive and filled with strength.
